Whale Heat Air:
Underslung Fitting

Maximized internal space. Our technical guide to mounting the Whale Heat Air underslung gas and electric heater to your vehicle.

Installation Overview

The Whale Heat Air is a high-performance space heater designed to be mounted **underneath the vehicle chassis**. This frees up significant internal cupboard space that would otherwise be occupied by a bulky internal heater.

The installation involves structural chassis mounting, gas line integration, and the routing of 65mm insulated ducting into the vehicle living area.

Chassis Brackets

Whale provides vehicle-specific bracket kits for Sprinter, Crafter, Transit, and Ducato. These are designed to pick up on existing chassis holes. It is essential to use the official kit to ensure the heater is correctly distanced from the exhaust and fuel lines.

Tightening Torque

Always use a torque wrench to tighten chassis bolts to the manufacturer's specification. Road vibration can loosen standard bolts over time.

Ducting & Airflow

Because the heater is outside, the hot air ducting must pass through the vehicle floor. Use high-performance thermal lagging on all exposed exterior ducting to prevent heat loss before the air reaches the interior vents.

Gas & Electrical

The Heat Air requires a 12V supply for the fan and control system and a separate 230V AC supply if you wish to use the electric heating mode. Gas connection is via an 8mm compression bulkhead fitting.
