Airtronic S3:
Precision Installation

A technical guide to installing the Airtronic S3 D2L/D4L with a focus on silent pump integration and CAN-bus digital control.

Installation Overview

Eberspächer heaters are precision instruments. While the physical installation is similar to other diesel heaters, the tolerances for fuel line length and electrical impedance are much tighter. Following the official technical schematic is non-negotiable for a reliable system.

Technical Precision

The S3 uses CAN-bus communication. Do not attempt to bypass the official wiring loom or use generic 'switch' controllers, as this will void the warranty and may damage the ECU.

Silent Pump Mounting

The Eberspächer silent pump must be mounted using the provided rubber anti-vibration bracket. It should be tilted at an angle of 15° to 35° (outlet facing upwards) to ensure air bubbles are naturally purged from the system.

CAN-bus Digital Wiring

The S3 range uses a 4-wire CAN-bus system for the EasyStart Pro controller. This allows for two-way communication, meaning the controller can display detailed error codes directly from the heater. Do not splice these wires—use the provided waterproof connectors only.

Exhaust & Floor Seals

Ensure the heater is mounted on a flat surface using the supplied rubber gasket. For vans with ribbed floors, you must use a metal mounting plate and sealant to ensure a 100% gas-tight seal between the cabin and the exhaust/fuel lines.
